Configuring Outlook 2002 (XP)
1. Open Outlook.
2. Go to Tools and select E-mail Accounts.
3. Click Add a New E-mail Account.
4. Click Next.
5. Choose POP3.
6. Click Next.
7. Your Name = Your Full Name.
8. E-mail Address = Your e-mail address (ex: info@YourDomain.com)
9. Incoming Mail = www.YourDomain.com
10.Outgoing Mail = Whatever your ISP provides (ex: smtp.yourISP.com or mail.yourISP.com)
11.Username = your username
12.Click Next.
13.Press Finish. You have successfully configured Outlook 2002

Error 797

Error 797: The connection failed because the modem or other connecting device failed

  • This can be resolved by following these steps:
  • Restart your computer and wait until all applications have completely loaded before trying to reconnect.
  • If your problem has still not been resolved uninstall and reinstall your Broadband modem

Error 680 and both modem lights are solid green

Error 680 and both modem lights are solid green

If the modem installation seems successful and you have two solid green lights on your modem but are still receiving the error message- 680: No dial tone, then:


  • If you have an internal 56k modem please disable the modem as follows
  • Right click on the My Computer Icon on your desktop and then select Properties
  • If you have a Device Manager tab along the top select this, otherwise select the Hardware tab along the top and then click on the Device Manager button
  • In the Device Manager click on the + sign on the Modem selection and then...
  • Identify and right click your modem icon and select Disable / Properties and then Disable in this Hardware Profile
  • After you have completed this, close down the Device Manager and then restart your computer and try to reconnect to the Broadband connection.

Error 678

Error 678 -The Computer You Are Dialing Into Is Not Answering

This error normally occurs when using Windows XP. This can be resolved by following these steps:

Windows XP

  1. Restart your computer and wait until all applications have completely loaded before trying to reconnect.
  2. Click on the Start Menu and then select Run. In the box which appears type the word command in order to open the command prompt and then click OK. In the black command prompt window, type netsh interface ip reset log.txt and click on Enter on your keyboard. Then type exit into the command prompt and then click on Enter on your keyboard. Now restart your computer and reconnect to the Internet.

Recreate the Dial Up Connection as described

  1. Windows 98 & Windows ME: On your computers desktop click My Computer and then double click on the Dial-Up Networking folder. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up

Windows 2000

  1. Click Start then Control Panel then Network and Dial-up Connections. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up

Windows XP

  1. Click Start then Control Panel then Network Connections. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up

Error 650/721/718

Error 650/721/718

The most likely reason for one of the above errors is a Network Problem. In this case follow these steps:

  • After receiving this error wait 15 minutes and then restart your computer. Once it has restarted wait until all applications have completely loaded before trying to reconnect.
  • On this option you will be informed of any Network Outages we may be experiencing. In the rare case that we are experiencing a Network Outage please be assured we will be working on the problem to restore service as soon as possible. Please be patient.
  • If there are no network outages being reported the problem may originate from your computer. In this case recreate your Internet Dial Up Connection
  • If your problem has still not been resolved uninstall and reinstall your Broadband modem. For information on how to do this click on your modem

Error 645

Error 645 - Internal Authentication Error

  • This problem tends to occur when using Windows 98 or Windows ME. This can be resolved by following these steps:
  • Recreate the Dial Up Connection as described
  • Windows 98 & Windows ME: On your computers desktop click My Computer and then double click on the Dial-Up Networking folder. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up
  • Windows 2000: Click Start then Control Panel then Network and Dial-up Connections. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up
  • Windows XP: Click Start then Control Panel then Network Connections. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up
  • Windows 95/98 - This error can occur if the Require encrypted password option is enabled on the Server Types tab in the connection’s properties, or an incorrect user name or password have been entered.

Error 633

Error 633 -The port is already in use / not configured for Remote Access Dialout


  • This error can be best remedied by:

  • A restart of your computer tends to resolve 50% of cases with this error message
  • Disable any Firewall Software and try to connect again...
  • Recreate the Dial Up Connection
  • Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Modem.

Error 631

  • Usually this is a one-off glitch which happens when the Connection Progress is interrupted by the user or another program on the PC. In order to resolve this:
  • Restart your computer and wait until all applications have completely loaded before trying to reconnect.
  • Recreate the Dial Up Connection
  • Windows 98 & Windows ME: On your computers desktop click My Computer and then double click on the Dial-Up Networking folder. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up
  • Windows 2000: Click Start then Control Panel then Network and Dial-up Connections. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up
  • Windows XP: Click Start then Control Panel then Network Connections. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL).

Error 629

This can be resolved by following these steps:

  • Restart your computer and wait until all applications have completely loaded before trying to reconnect.
  • Recreate the Dial Up Connection as described
  • Windows 98 & Windows ME: On your computers desktop click My Computer and then double click on the Dial-Up Networking folder. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for One Tel Broadband here you can manually set up
  • Windows 2000: Click Start then Control Panel then Network and Dial-up Connections. You should then be able to see the One Tel Broadband connection icon (this may also be called Internet ADSL). If you cannot find an icon for OneTel Broadband here you can manually set up

  • If your problem has still not been resolved uninstall and reinstall your Broadband modem.

Error 619

Error 619 - The port was disconnected

This can be resolved by following these steps:

  • Restart your computer and wait until all applications have completely loaded before trying to reconnect.
  • Check your modem and phone cables are connected securely.
  • If your problem has still not been resolved uninstall and reinstall your Broadband modem

Smartax mt882 Modem

* Is a Router/Modem.
* When trying to install using the USB connection you may get a message telling you to uninstall the USB Drivers. If that happens the steps are:
From the Windows 'Start' menu.
Right click 'My computer'.
Select 'Properties'.
Then the 'Hardware' tab.
Then 'Device Manager'.
Expand the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
In turn, right click on each 'Root Hub' and 'Controller' selecting 'Uninstall.
When you have uninstalled all of them run the TalkTalk setup disk again.
Alternatively, you may try these USB Drivers SmartAX MT882 Drivers (to USB)
* Both USB and LAN can be used at the same time enabling two PC's to run off the Router/Modem.
* The software in the Router/Modem has a default Username and Password. These are reset to your Username and Password when you set up using the setup disk.
* If the Router/Modem is switched off at the plug, or the 'Reset button' is pressed, the default Username and Password are reinstated. Thus preventing connection to the Internet.
* If the default Username and Password in the Router/Modem are reinstated it is not necessary to reinstall with the setup disk.
* The default Username and Password in the Router/Modem allow the PC to connect to a page on the server.
Resetting the Username and Password in the Router/Modem.
* If, like myself, you switch off the bank of plugs to the PC etc. At night.
After installing your modem fom the TalkTalk 'Setup' CD
Open up your Browser and type in http://192.168.1.1/ (If you are using just the USB connection you may need to try http://192.168.1.2/ )
The Username and Password for the Page you are accessing, in the Modem/Router, are admin admin .
The page that displays shows the settings of your smartax mt882 Router/Modem.
Expand the 'Basic' submenu on the left hand menu and select 'WAN Settings'.
Click the Pencil icon that is on the top right (next to the dustbin).
Locate and change the default Username and Password (shown on the right hand side) to your TalkTalk Username and Password.
Saving your settings
Once it is working
Click the 'Save All' button found at the bottom of the left hand menu.
The Modem/Router is now set for your TalkTalk Username and Password.
